Portugal Launches Digital Nomad Visa

Supercharged by the COVD19 Pandemic and the trend towards digital and remote only work, there are now millions of people around the world that are working completely online. One of the most popular destinations for digital nomads is Portugal due to its stunning scenery, relaxed culture, low cost of living and availability of accommodation for those looking for the digital nomad lifestyle.

Originally, Portugal offered the D7 visa which allows anyone to live and work in the country, of they have an income of more than €822.50 (£718.40, $804.40) per month – and commit to living there for the majority of the year.

Now the country has introduced a digital nomad visa which is likely to be a stepping stone to a full D7 visa. To qualify for Portugal’s remote working visa, you’ll need to be employed by a foreign company and come from a country which is not in the EU or EEA. You need to have an income of more than $2,750 a month and you can apply at the Portugese Consulate of your home country or the Department of Immigration in Portugal.
